From the opening scenes of the Kansas homestead and Dorothy’s timeless ballad “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” audiences with be transported back to early 20 th century America through the Gale family’s and farmhands’ period-appropriate work clothes.

Dorothy awakens after the storm to find that her house has dropped in a strange and colorful new land: Munchkinland in the wonderful Land of Oz. Dorothy flees with Toto to ensure his safety, but after meeting with the kind fortune teller, Professor Marvel, Dorothy returns back to the farm to find that a tornado is approaching her home. Dorothy tries to run away from home after the family’s neighbor, Almira Gulch, threatens to euthanize Dorothy’s beloved dog Toto for biting Ms. With unforgettable songs like “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” any retelling of Dorothy Gale’s adventures in the Land of Oz will have any audience feeling like there truly is no place like home.ĭorothy’s fantastical tale begins at her Uncle Henry and Auntie Em’s farm in Kansas.
